Jane McCance

Born in Glasgow in 1974 and educated at GSA, Jane McCance’s paintings are reflections on nostalgia, memory and renewal.

Drawing upon her dual heritage of Scotland’s west coast and the farmlands of Denmark, the landscape-based pieces are in response to the sense of ‘inhaling’ an environment when one stands ‘in’ it; a feeling of not just wishing to ‘look’ but to consume and keep it.

Her still life paintings are an exploration of memory, sometimes bittersweet, but just out of reach – childhood rooms and objects, arrangements, flowers placed there by people we have known; the intangible way in which past and future collide to create forward movement and renewal.
